Who is Too Much Abroad?

I am! Hi, I’m Lili, a USA Today bestselling author, single mom, American living abroad, and now, a travel blogger.

I’m based in Cyprus, but currently traveling nearly full-time on a gap year with my teenage son. We meet up with my older son when we can, and I’m sorting out what life looks like when the kids need me less and the world suddenly gets a lot bigger.

And I’m not planning to stop when the gap year ends.

As my sons launch their own lives, I’ll be continuing the adventure with more solo travel, longer stays, silly adventures, and hopefully a lot of excellent food along the way.

After years of making my living as a novelist, I started Too Much Abroad because I already spend an absurd amount of time researching where to go, how to get there, where to stay, what things actually cost, and whether the place everyone on the internet is raving about is genuinely worth the trouble.

So I figured I might as well share the homework.

The deal here is simple: I’m not going to bullshit you.

If I loved a place, I’ll tell you why. If it disappointed me, I’ll tell you that too. If a hotel was worth the money, a train route was surprisingly easy, a tourist attraction was overrated, or I made a planning mistake that you can avoid, you’ll hear about it.

I also pay attention to how easy a destination is to navigate if you have ADHD or are otherwise neurodivergent. My younger son and I are both a little spicy in the brain department, so things like confusing transit, sensory overload, endless queues, and needlessly complicated logistics make it into my reviews.

Most of the destination guides on Too Much Abroad come from places I’ve personally visited, with practical details researched and updated when I publish. I care a lot more about giving you useful information than convincing you every destination is “magical.”
